  • William Short (unknown)
married Mary Baker (1790 - 1843) at St Nicholas Church, Abingdon, in 1814. Known children:
  1. William Short - Baptised 1815. Died 1862.
  2. Mary Ann Short - Baptised 1817. Married Richard New in 1839. Died 1899.
  3. Thomas Short - Baptised 1818.
  4. Elizabeth Short - Baptised 1820.
  5. Joseph Short - Baptised 1821. Died 1900 in the Bicester area.
  6. George Short - Baptised 1824. Died1893.
  7. Jonathan Short - Baptised 1827. Died 1874.
  8. John Short - Died 1910.
  9. James Short - Baptised 1833.
At the time of their marriage, William and Mary were both 'of this parish', neither had previously been married, and they were married by banns. Mary was unable to write as she signed her name with a 'X'. Witnesses to the marriage were Thomas Pegman and Mary Short - presumably William's sister. Mary Short also signed with a 'X'.

All the children were baptised at St Nicholas Church, Abingdon. All the records noted William as being a bargeman, and the family living on Thames Street. I haven't been able to find a record for John.

The 1841 census shows the family living with Mary's mother, Elizabeth Baker. Mary Ann and her family were living in the same street as William and Mary.

Mary died in 1843 aged 53 years. She was buried at St Helen's church in Abingdon. She was noted as being of Thames Street. All the children with dates of death noted, died in Abingdon unless otherwise stated.
